OCCA STUDENT OUTREACH PROGRAM DELIVERS SEVEN MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS TO JR. HIGH SCHOOL PROGRAMS
On Wednesday, February 27, 2008, the Oxnard Community Concert Association (OCCA) through its Student Outreach Program had the honor of donating needed instruments to local schools in Ventura County. Haydock Jr. High School received a cello. Fremont Junior High and
Frank
Junior High Schools received two flutes and two clarinets. E.O. Green Junior High School received an alto saxophone and a trombone. This brings the total number of instruments donated to local schools to sixteen.
These instruments are either donated by interested persons or purchased by OCCA with funds donated by its members specifically for the Student Outreach Program. The instruments are refurbished by Hensen’s Music Company and then donated to the local school’s music program for use by students desiring to learn to play in a band or orchestra. These donated instruments become the property of the individual schools music department.
The OCCA has been providing affordable musical arts presentations in the Ventura County Area for over sixty-two years as a non-profit volunteer organization. It operates on a yearly basis, providing five varied performances each year at an average cost of less than $20.00 per presentation per member.
